10 MORE eco-friendly healthy habits anyone can do!

1)      Bring your own reusable shopping bags – this can reduce plastic use and trash.

2)      Reuse in house renovations– reusing or revamping old parts of a house during a reno keeps the old stuff out of the landfill and keeps you from buying new stuff. For example, refinishing your cabinets instead of buying all new ones.

3)      Make your yard water conscious – Plant drought resistant grass species that don’t have to be watered as much or use landscaping that doesn’t need watering such as gravel. You can also use rain barrels to collect water when it   rains for watering the lawn. Any amount of water saved reduces your water bill and helps preserve an increasingly scarce resource.

4)      Know your stuff – reading news articles or books on environmental topics can help you to not only make better choices in your life, but understand why they are better.

5)      Turn off the A/C – If the weather is tolerable, open a window and enjoy the breeze. Most air conditioners are highly inefficient, so enjoy the free outdoor temperature or use a ceiling fan instead of the a/c.

6)      Look for the energy star label when purchasing home item – these appliances use less energy and reduce your carbon footprint!

7)      Unplug when not in use – it may seem silly, but all of those electronic and appliances that we keep plugged in all the time use energy even when they are “off”.

8)      Go paperless and pay your bills online – saves paper and reduces fossil fuel use.

9)      Take a shower instead of a bath – Water is going to become an increasingly precious commodity, so be water smart and use less by taking a shower.

10)   Dry your clothes on a line – using a clothes line and the sun to dry your clothes instead of the dryer reduces energy use and leaves clothes smelling great!
